Family Session

What To Expect

I take a very relaxed approach to all my sessions. My main aim is to make everyone feel comfortable and is very much led my baby. My style is a hybrid between lifestyle and documentary. This means that I do a mix of standing back and capturing what enfolds in front of me as well as offering little prompts here and there and directing you into the best light. I do minimal posing but I may ask you to sit or stand in a certain spot or light and ask you to hold and hug each other to get some detail and family photos but that will be all.

Indoor Sessions

When I first arrive I will chat to the children a little and perhaps ask them to show me their toys and their room so that they get to know me and feel comfortable. I will take a little tour of your house and find which rooms I think would be best to do the photos in. Usually these are just the rooms with the best light. Please don’t feel you need to tidy up or clean too much as I take a documentary approach it’s all about capturing your family for who you are and how you live so you can look back in years to come and remember exactly how it was at that time.

I will aim to get a few photographs of you all together and an environmental portrait of each child. For the rest of the session the focus will be on capturing natural moments and tell the story of your family.

Outdoor Sessions

I will likely start taking photos straight away as I wouldn’t want to miss any natural moments. So I will start by asking you to walk to the spot where we take a majority of the photos and will be snapping away on the walk. All that I ask is that there is lots of contact and connection between family members as this will be my main focus for the whole session. Whether it be holding hands, pulling each other along, holding and picking up children, whatever feels natural to you.

Once at our location I will firstly try to get a photo of you all together where i will ask you to interact with each other or me so there are no forced smiles. I will ask children to sing their favourite songs or tickle each other. From then we will just play games and explore and I will capture and document natural moments that occur.

What to wear

Comfortable clothes that you would usually wear. I only advise people to stay away from too bright or patterned clothes that will take away from what is happening in the photos.
